The grand opening! This is my first review on my brand new blog, and never would I have expected my first to be Narnia 2. But anyway...
The four siblings are back to venture into the land of Narnia, knowing not that this time around, things are going to be way harder than before. I managed to watch Prince Caspian the day it came out (not that I was hellbent on catching the first show or anything, I just happened to get tickets), and believe it or not, I was very surprised to find that by the end of the movie, I was really entertained and actually had a good time. It's not that I'm against the Narnia series, it's just that I lean more towards the darker genre of films and wouldn't list Narnia as one of my 'must-watch movies'. Surprisingly enough, I found this sequel to The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe very interesting.
Here's what you need to know. No worries, there are NO spoilers.
It's been a year since Peter, Edward, Susan, and Lucy left Narnia via the wardrobe, and the four have only just settled back into an average life. But trouble brews in Narnia and Caspian, prince of the Thelmarines(?), blows the Horn Of Susan which summons the four children back into the land of which they once ruled. Lo and behold...it's only been a year for the kids in England, but a whopping 700 f**kin' years have passed in the land of Narnia! Talk about weirdness. The four set out to seek Aslan when they bump into Caspian himself, and that's where the real story starts.

Needless to say, the second Narnia flick is way more entertaining than the first, although some (which includes the box-office sales) may disagree. The few instances of real slapstick humor may annoy you like it did me, but if you can ignore those bits and just watch the movie for what it's worth, you'll find that there's really a lot to like about it. The visual effects or CGI has improved a lot since the last film. The animals (especially the griffins) look a lot more realistic than they did before. What many may not expect is that the movie is certainly thematically darker than the first, which is very rare to see when it comes to films like Narnia and those in the same genre. What really got me into the scenes was the fact that there was a sense of down-to-earth-ness about the characters. For once you could feel their imperfections and internal conflicts, which is very real because these are teenagers, for Pete's sake! Sure, Narnia looks cool and there are talking lions and guys that have hooves for feet, but would you spend centuries in some enchanted land that has no Internet access, no local cinemas, and no Angelina Jolie? I didn't think so. And yes, these kids (well the bigger ones whose hormones seem to be raging at least) have those feelings. And unlike the first flick, this one really emphasizes on the fact that there is a big problem ahead and something needs to be done to stop the impending danger.
All in all, The Chronicles Of Narnia : Prince Caspian is a fun watch. It's entertaining, it has great CGI, the acting is okay, and it makes the length of the film (an approximate 2 hours) worthwhile. A DVD buy would do, but you'd have to see it on the big screen to really see the visual impact of it all. Until the next review, adios!
